How long will my tiles take?
Depending on the size of your job, how many I have ready to go and what your requirements are, it could be one week or 6 months! Just give me ring and let me know what you’re looking for - I should be able to give you a good timeline. 022 606 5220.
I can’t find a tiler to install them!
I’ve done a few installs of my own tiles for people within the region, feel free to ask for an install quote with your tile quote. Tilers often prefer uniform large format tiles as these are much quicker to install, expect for these to come at a higher install cost due to the extra time and grout needed.
I have a specific colour and you don’t have it on here?
No problem! Im happy to work with you trialing glazes to get the finish you like. If you’re looking for a unique glaze that I havent trialled already I charge $50 for each new colour, and expect to wait 2 weeks for these to be ready for you to inspect.
Do they need special treatment?
I work with a local 100%NZ clay body which is very strong, but not completely vitrified at my firing temperature, so a sealer should always be used post-grouting, which is recommended anyway. Apart from this, using a gentle environmentally friendly cleaner will keep them happy and looking good, although you can go at them with bleach, jif, magic eraser - whatever! *matte tiles are more likely to mark in the course of day to day wear - jif should sort this out.
Where can I use these?
They have been installed on wet area walls, splashbacks, and floors with no issues to date. As they are unique handmade products please expect and adore their imperfections and consider your desire to clean an undulating surface when you choose your spot. Depending on the glaze used they will be easier or harder to clean, as with all ceramics - glossier is easier to wipe clean.

What special considerations should I make when designing my tile?
Clay will warp and move as it dries - depending on many diferent factors. You'll have the most sucess with your tiles if they avoid small sticking out areas, being too long and skinny and being too thin.
How thick should they be?
About 10mm thick.
What is the max size I can make?
For the above reasons, the larger the tile, the more issues they have. We'd advise a 2 - 20cm size range for your piece. The smaller they are, the more you can get away with in terms of fiddly angles.

I have a heritage project I need to match tiles to! Can you help?!
We are working on new colours all the time. Get in touch and send us a sample and we'll see if we can help!
Lead Times?
Please allow 3-4 months as our tiles are generally made to order.
Price Indication?
Our terracotta single fired tiles come in cheapest at around $300m2, glazed tiles vary depending on the cost of glaze - more depth of colour. Reds, and satin mattes are generally more expensive due to glazes being built up in layers or just the cost of buying them from the supplier. Also specialized clays with iron bleeding are more expensive.
Sustainabilty?
We only use 100% local Waikato clay for our tiles. All our materials come from NZ suppliers, although they use a wide variety of minerals and oxides from around the world*.
We fire using eletricity - and endevor to use peak load during off peak times - increasing the likelyhood that a renewable source was used to power the kiln. Unfortunately the power used to reach temperatures of 1200 degress is too much for solar panels and while we are subsidised by solar, we cant meet the full load requirements using this.
Water is reused again and again in the studio, mostly due to this being the easiest course of action but it helps during droughty summers - not that we have many of those here in the Waikato!
I want ceramic tile trims or edging!
No problem! We can make up specific rounded corners, cut bevels or create specific details for you to go with your field tile.
I want to have a look!
Stop by the studio during open hours or by appointment, We're working on getting together a nice selection of samples for you!
I want samples!
If you are an interior designer, architect or tile retailer we can send you a kit we've made up specially for you! It has different colours and a few samples of our core shapes. You can of course have your own shape made up for you. Just email to order.
Wet areas? Outside?
We have successfully installed glazed tiles outdoors as cladding with no sealing and they still look great. We have also used them in waterproofed wet area (showers) with no issues - we do recommend a reseal every year along with your grout. This is more important for crackle glazes. They have yet to be used in submerged applications, but trials are in the works for this. As we are an artisan product your client will need to understand the highly variable nature of the final tiles.
*please be aware that blue glazes contain cobalt with its nasty ethical impact.
